Tom Petrone on "Young and Free"
As a jazz artist from Massapequa, New York, my creative process often starts with a spark of inspiration from the music I love. My upcoming track, Young and Free, owes its beginnings to my earlier song, Something About Toronto, and the captivating bossa novas currently lighting up the jazz charts. The guitar intro was the first piece to fall into place, setting the tone for the entire song.
The journey really took off when Stuart Waterz, a brilliant pianist and frequent collaborator, joined me in the studio. Together, we fleshed out the song’s form, building on the ideas I’d started. Then my music partner, Dan Marshall, stepped in with his lyrical genius and production expertise. Dan’s lyrics brought the story to life—a tale of a young couple who’ve just met, filled with the excitement and spontaneity of dreaming about an adventurous getaway.
Young and Free blends lush melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and the vibrant energy of new beginnings. I’m thrilled to share this piece with the world and hope it resonates with listeners, whether it’s on a playlist or in a live setting.
